As Milwaukeeans, who cherish our city, and as attorneys, who believe everyone should have access to effective counsel, we are honored to highlight Centro Legal as an organization that inspired us in 2019.
The legal system is incredibly complex. We navigate clients across its highways, backroads, and switchbacks for a living. For clients with unbridled access to high-quality representation it still, oftentimes, feels overwhelming.
For those that do not have that guidance it can be downright impossible.
Since 1991, Centro Legal, a nonprofit legal services firm headquartered in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point, has provided legal services and representation to countless individuals and families in Wisconsin who could not afford to seek quality representation elsewhere. Centro serves as navigators and advocates for justice for those that simply cannot afford to hire high-quality legal counsel. Through its work providing representation, free guidance and consultations, and family law classes throughout the community, they have helped thousands of Wisconsin families find justice.
Earlier this year, Laffey, Leitner & Goode LLC was honored to serve as the presenting sponsor of Centro Legal’s Annual Gala. This event highlighted our community’s enormous need and Centro Legal’s incredible work. Most critically, it helped to secure precious funds to keep that work going.
In his remarks at the event, Founding Partner Joseph S. Goode summed up exactly why Centro Legal’s efforts in Milwaukee are so important to LLG:
“Milwaukee reflects our sensibilities. Milwaukee is a place in which [Jack, Mark, and I] maintain tremendous pride. And, like all cities, Milwaukee needs love, upkeep, and commitments from those in a position to help to stop talking—and start doing. The organization we celebrate tonight serves only to make this city an even better place by providing exceptional legal services to those that need them.”
We encourage you to learn more about Centro Legal’s important work and how it helps our city by visiting their website or considering the organization in your year end giving plan.
